John Julio Romano,
originally from New York, has over 15 years experience in coaching
competitive figure skating. John has taught under both the USFSA
and ISI skating programs and is a rated member of the Professional
Skaters Association (PSA) through which he is currently working on
obtaining a master coaching rating in both Freestyle and Moves in
the Field.
As an amateur, John trained on
the east coast with Metropolitan Figure Skating Club and the Long Island
Figure Skating Club. He has also trained at The University of Delaware
Training Center and the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center. John was a
men’s single competitor in Eastern’s Sectionals, Regionals, Nationals,
and later skated with Disney World on Ice for the 1995 Rockefeller
Center Lighting Company on NBC.
As a professional, John’s
students have ranged from tots (3-4 years old) in The Rinx Preschool
Academy through Adult Competitors, who have competed on the Junior,
Masters and International levels. John was also the Assistant Director
of Double Rinx Inc. (The Rinx) in N.Y. and then went on to open
Sports/Plus Inc. where he served as Figure Skating Director for several
years, helped run the first PSA Regional Training Camp on Long Island,
N.Y. and organized and began the Golden Edge Figure Skating Club. John
also holds a B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design/The New School
University as well as an M.F.A. from Bard University/The International
Center of Photography.
